WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO PROTECT LIFE?
We believe that life has inherent value, which is why our office is dedicated to safeguarding the rights and well-being of women, children, and families across Louisiana. Here are our initiatives to protect life:
Defending Life & Dignity
- We champion the right to life and human dignity of every individual, from conception through adulthood and even into their final years
- Our advocacy played a pivotal role in the historic overturning of Roe v. Wade, ensuring that states like Louisiana are able to protect life
- We’ve also battled against funding cuts for pregnancy centers, fought for the dignity & respect of the elderly, and continue to support programs like Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), which provide crucial support to vulnerable families and single mothers, offering a lifeline during times of hardship
Protecting the Vulnerable
- We being together law enforcement, prosecutors, healthcare professionals, and advocates to provide comprehensive support to victims of domestic violence
- Our Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit works tirelessly to identify and apprehend online predators, fight child exploitation, and educate families on the dangers of the cyberspace
- Through public awareness campaigns and educational initiatives, we raise awareness on the impact of both domestic violence and child exploitation, ensuring that law enforcement and families alike have the tools & knowledge needed for positive outcomes
Did you know?
- Every 68 seconds an American is sexually assaulted. Every 9 minutes, that victim is a child. In more than half of those cases, the assault happened at or near the victim’s home.
- According to NCMEC data, 60% of children know their abuser. The rest are victims of strangers online.
- Louisiana is ranked in the top 5 for female homicides — and more than half of these women killed by their intimate partners.
- The longer a victim waits to contact law enforcement, the more dangerous the situation becomes. In fact, the most dangerous call for a first responder is one for domestic violence.
